In 2016, I was thinking about ways to update the deckbuilding/area control game Clash of Empires I was working on, and I thought a simultaneous play version could work. After a while, I realized that the simultaneous area control rules could be adapted to a new game.
Game summary
This is a game about a bunch of fast food companies competing over business in an area. The goal is to have the most money at the end of the game by investing in these fast food companies.
Theme
Fast food for now, but I might change to using something else like political
Map
The map will be a 10×10 grid. A core part of the game is finding specific territories on the map, and a grid will make this much easier
Victory condition
For each stock in their portfolio, players earn points for that company’s value.
Calculating company value
+$1,000,000 per square controlled by the company.
+$1,000,000 per resource * (# of resources controlled of that type)
Setup
Take 10 tiles of each of the 4 resources, and randomly distribute them across the map
There will be a pile of setup cards determining the starting portfolios based on the number of players. Take one and randomly deal one to each player.
These cards determine your initial portfolio.
A game turn
During each turn, players will all simultaneously play two cards from their hand. The first card will be an action card that has one of several types.
- Influence: Place one cube of the company listed on the card
- City: Place a city on the board.
- HQ: Place an HQ on the board. These belong to a company, and are destroyed if the square is taken over.
The other card will be a location card representing the location they want to play on.
Afterwards, everyone reveals their cards simultaneously and resolves their action cards.
If multiple companies have a cube in the same space, a battle happened. Battles happen simultaneous, unless two battles are adjacent to each other. In that case, the battle closest to the A row(Closest to the 1 column in case of a tie) resolves first.
Each company rolls a die, and adds the following modifiers.
- +1 for each adjacent square controlled by the same company
- +2 for each adjacent friendly HQ.
Each company except the highest roller removes one cube.
After battling, each player draws one location card and one company card without looking. Then they pass their cards to the left.
Investing
Every 5 rounds players will invest at the end of the round. Each player can secretly invest in one company
End game
The game ends after 16 rounds.
Other rules
- Diagonals don’t count for adjacency.
- If two companies have cubes on a space, nobody controls that space.
