Create Third Places will be a decentralized event organization and discovery platform. Event hosts will be able to use the platform to host public events. Other uses will be able to use the platform to find events to join.

I am currently working on an website to find and host public board game events in the DMV area: https://dmvboardgames.com/

Here are the key values that the platform will follow:

• Inclusivity: Events should be open to everyone.
• Face-to-face connection: Events hosted through the platform will be hosted in person with the goals of helping people meet others and develop friendships. There will be limited messaging capabilities which will be designed for the purpose of helping plan events. People will be encouraged to use existing messaging platforms and exchange contact information in person.
• Decentralization: The platform will not be exclusively controlled by one person or entity. People will be supported in creating their own websites. These websites will have the capability of setting up their own groups and events, and they will also be able to aggregate groups from other websites. Communication will be done using the ActivityPub protocol.
• Non-commercial: Monetization of the site will only be done with the goals of paying for costs associated with running the site and . Monetization will not involve advertisements or gating features behind a paywall. Source code used in the website will also be open source.
